Out of Stockbridge, Georgia came one of the 90s most dependable rock outfits, Collective Soul, built around the songwriting instincts of Ed Roland and his brother Dean Roland on rhythm guitar. Rounding out the classic lineup were guitarist Ross Childress, bassist Will Turpin, and drummer Shane Evans. What started as demo recordings Ed made for other artists wound up becoming the band's own material when those demos got radio airplay in Atlanta, essentially launching their career by accident. That kind of organic, no-nonsense origin story suited the music perfectly.
