Cave Nation's guest hosts, ranked by appearances
#1
Paul Chabot
Paul Chabot has appeared on The Rock Cave so many times he's basically applied for co-host, twice tried to steal the show with a full pirate radio takeover, and still found time to review Megadeth, Tesla, and ELP like the prog-metal encyclopedia he is. Cave Nation, just accept it — Paul's part of the furniture now, and Mark's never getting his chair back.

#2
Frank Sassano
Frank Sassano has appeared on The Rock Cave so many times that Mark had to legally register him as a co-host just to keep the insurance valid. A man of impeccable taste spanning REM, The Cars, Meat Loaf, and ELP, Frank also launched not one but multiple "Pirate Radio Takeovers," which is basically a slow-motion coup dressed up as a podcast. Cave Nation, keep an eye on this one, he's 15 episodes deep and clearly coming for the keys to the cave.

#3
Michael Murray
Michael Murray has appeared on The Rock Cave so many times that Cave Nation is starting to wonder if he's paying rent. A man of gloriously eclectic taste, he's equally at home debating Pink Floyd's deep cuts, championing prog rock underdogs like Saga and Marillion, and somehow making Evanescence and Kim Wilde feel like a perfectly logical double feature. Mark keeps inviting him back, which either means Michael is great company or he's slowly staging a very friendly hostile takeover.

#4
Sara Jansen Pierce
Sara Jansen Pierce has appeared on The Rock Cave so many times she's basically a co-host at this point, and Cave Nation is starting to wonder whose show this actually is. From deep-diving Rickie Lee Jones and Lionel Richie to defending Air Supply with zero apology, Sara brings the kind of musical range that keeps Mark on his toes. She even got her own birthday episode, which the rest of us are still jealous about.

#5
Chris Hindman
Chris Hindman has shown up five times now, which at this point makes him less of a guest and more of a co-host who just hasn't figured out where the login button is. A man of impeccable taste, Chris gravitates toward bands that have been around longer than most of our mortgages — Kansas, The Wallflowers, Big Head Todd, Cinderella — basically if it rocks and has been doing it for decades, Chris has opinions. Strong ones. Cave Nation, welcome back the guy who keeps trying to steal Mark's chair.

#6
Lila Pierce
Lila Pierce has appeared on The Rock Cave five times now, which at this point makes her less of a guest and more of a hostile takeover in progress. From celebrating Lady Gaga birthdays to championing The Chicks and Regina Spektor, she clearly has taste that could rival the host himself. Cave Nation, meet the woman who may actually be running this show from behind the scenes.

#7
Sean Murphy
Sean Murphy has made himself right at home in the Cave, popping up four times to dig through everything from Aerosmith's mid-80s glory days to the deep cuts of Odds and Sods. Clearly a man of impeccable taste and questionable free time, Sean keeps coming back for more, which either says a lot about his love of rock or his home life. Cave Nation, welcome back one of your own.

#8
Alan Petitti
Alan Petitti has been rocking with the legendary Boston band O Positive long enough to earn not just one episode on The Rock Cave, but two, because apparently one conversation with Mark just wasn't enough to contain all that positive energy. A man of O Positive blood running through his rock and roll veins, Alan proved so entertaining that Cave Nation demanded a Part 2 before the credits even rolled on Part 1.

#9
Ann
Ann has graced The Rock Cave not once but twice, proving she's got range — from reliving Saturday detention with The Breakfast Club to getting nobody putting Baby in a corner with some Dirty Dancing vibes. She clearly has a thing for iconic 80s soundtracks, questionable fashion choices, and probably owns at least one pair of leg warmers. Cave Nation, make her feel at home.
2 eps
#10
Caroline
Caroline has graced the Cave with not one but two appearances, proving she has both excellent taste and questionable decision-making skills. A lover of the silky smooth Melody Gardot and the Piano Man himself Billy Joel, she clearly has a soft spot for artists who make you feel things you weren't prepared to feel. Cave Nation, consider her one of us.

#11
Michael Pierce
Michael Pierce holds the rare distinction of being the only guest on The Rock Cave who shares both the host's last name and his questionable taste in 80s synth-driven new wave. A man who clearly ran so far away from normal music opinions he ended up right back in The Cave, Michael has graced us with his presence twice now, which at this point basically makes him family. Literally.

#12
Ralph Sassano
Ralph Sassano has appeared on The Rock Cave not once but twice in the same episode, which either makes him a true Cave Nation legend or someone who just really, really needed to finish his thoughts about Riot. A man of impeccable taste and impressive stamina, Ralph proves that some rock conversations simply cannot be contained in a single sitting. Welcome back, Ralph, the Cave never forgets.
2 eps
#13
Steven
Steven has graced the Cave with not one but two appearances, which either means he's great company or Mark just can't get rid of him. A man of eclectic taste, he's equally at home dissecting the jazzy, soulful heartbreak of Melody Gardot and then turning around to demand we all "what I got" with some Sublime. Cave Nation, raise a glass to Steven, a man who contains multitudes.
2 eps
#14
Zoe Pierce
Zoe Pierce has graced the Cave with not one but two appearances, which technically makes her the most powerful Pierce in the room depending on the episode. She's shown up for a Father's Day takeover and a deep dive into Regina Spektor, proving her taste ranges from chaotic family energy to beautifully unhinged piano pop. Cave Nation, treat her well, she's basically family.

#15
Alison Wright R
Alison Wright R showed up to The Rock Cave exactly once, dropped some serious knowledge about Culture Club, Human League, and Howard Jones, and then vanished back into the synth-soaked mists of 1998 like a keytar solo fading into the night. A true one-episode legend, Alison clearly has impeccable taste in big hair and bigger feelings. Cave Nation, raise a glass to this new wave champion.

#16
Angela Jevons Defiore
Angela Jevons Defiore swept into the Cave for one glorious episode, proved she had impeccable taste by celebrating The Beat's Save It For Later, and left us all wondering why we don't hang out with her every week. She's the friend who shows up to the party, immediately puts on the best song, and somehow makes everyone feel like they discovered it together. Cave Nation, she's one of yours.

#17
Bruce Hornsby
Bruce Hornsby rolled into the Cave for one glorious Slowdown Sunday and honestly, we're still recovering. The man clearly believes weekends were made for taking your sweet time, and we respect that deeply. One episode, zero regrets, maximum chill energy. Cave Nation, raise a glass to Bruce — he showed up, slowed it down, and left us wanting more.
1 ep
#18
Deb
Deb showed up to The Rock Cave exactly once, dropped her hot takes on Sea Hear Now 2025, and immediately became a Cave Nation legend. She's clearly the type who plans her entire year around festival lineups and probably has strong opinions about stage placement. Mark, we need her back before she disappears into the crowd again.

#19
Dwight
Dwight showed up to The Rock Cave like he had Saturday detention and nowhere better to be, dropped some serious knowledge about 80s rock, and then vanished into the weekend like he was never there. One episode, zero excuses, maximum Breakfast Club energy. Cave Nation, raise a glass to the man who proved you don't need a second chance to make a first impression.
1 ep
#20
Greg MacKinnon
Greg MacKinnon showed up to The Rock Cave once, dropped some serious Fontaines D.C. knowledge on Cave Nation, and promptly disappeared back into the Dublin underground — or possibly just his living room. He clearly has impeccable taste in post-punk poetry set to noise, and Mark was lucky to have him. One episode, zero misses. Legends don't overstay their welcome.
1 ep
#21
Kimberlea Chabot
Kimberlea Chabot showed up to The Rock Cave exactly once, and she made it count — arriving fully locked and loaded with opinions on Alanis Morissette and Garbage, which honestly tells you everything you need to know about her. She's the kind of person who was probably journaling angrily in flannel before it was cool. Cave Nation, raise a glass to our one-episode queen of '90s alt-rock feelings.
1 ep
#22
Maeve
Maeve stormed The Rock Cave exactly once, talked about Taylor Swift with the kind of passionate authority that makes you wonder if she has a PhD in Swiftology, and then disappeared back into the night like a true rock enigma. Cave Nation wasn't ready, but they respected it. One episode, zero regrets, maximum chaos.
1 ep
#23
Melissa Munn
Melissa Munn wandered into The Rock Cave long enough to school Cave Nation on the legend that is Bob Marley, which technically makes her the most relaxed guest we've ever had. One episode, zero stress, maximum vibes — honestly, goals. She showed up, dropped some reggae wisdom, and floated back out on a cloud of good music. Cave Nation, raise a Red Stripe for this one-and-done icon.
1 ep
#24
Patrick
Patrick wandered into the Cave for one glorious episode and immediately proved he has excellent taste by championing Amos Lee, which tells you everything you need to know about this man — he's got soul, he's got heart, and he probably cries at the good parts of songs but calls it "allergies." One episode, zero regrets, maximum credibility. Cave Nation, raise a glass to Patrick.
1 ep
#25
Renee
Renee crashed The Rock Cave for one glorious episode and made it count, trading festival survival tips and rock talk fresh from Sea Hear Now 2025. She's the kind of person who shows up to a beach music festival and somehow makes it feel like a religious experience. One episode, zero regrets, maximum vibes. Cave Nation, raise a sandy, salt-soaked drink to Renee.
1 ep
#26
Rod Recor
Rod Recor showed up to The Rock Cave once, dropped a full episode's worth of knowledge about Culture Club, Human League, and Howard Jones, and apparently had somewhere better to be after that. A true connoisseur of synths, shoulder pads, and feelings, Rod clearly has excellent taste in both music and knowing how to make a memorable exit. One episode, zero regrets, maximum 80s energy.
1 ep
#27
Tom Russell
Tom Russell showed up to The Rock Cave exactly once, dropped some serious knowledge about Touch of Evil's 2001 record, and then vanished into the night like a true rock mystery. Mark clearly invited someone with impeccable taste, because that album is an absolute deep cut worth obsessing over. One episode, zero regrets. Cave Nation, raise a glass to Tom.
1 ep
#28
Toni Sassano
Toni Sassano wandered into The Rock Cave exactly once, presumably on a Wednesday, presumably with wanderlust, and presumably with strong opinions about Red Vox. Whether they'll return is anyone's guess, but Cave Nation got one glorious episode out of the deal. Sometimes the universe sends you exactly the right person for exactly the right conversation, and Toni was that person. No pressure on a second appearance or anything, Toni.

#29
Vera
Vera showed up to The Rock Cave exactly once, dropped all her knowledge about Alanis Morissette's most iconic kiss-off anthem, and left the rest of us questioning every person who ever wronged us. She came, she vented, she conquered. Cave Nation, raise a glass to Vera, our patron saint of righteous fury and 90s alt-rock catharsis.

Honorary Cast Members
Chaplin
Chaplin burst onto the scene in S3E147 with an immediate and controversial hot take: The Lovecats is objectively the greatest song The Cure has ever recorded, and anyone who disagrees can find somewhere else to nap. A seasoned music critic with exactly one episode under their collar, Chaplin remains The Rock Cave's most selective contributor, appearing only when the subject matter meets their famously exacting standards.
