Out of Portland, Oregon came one of the more distinctive sounds of the early 80s rock scene. Quarterflash emerged from the ashes of a local band called Seafood Mama, built around the husband-and-wife duo of Rindy Ross and Marv Ross. Rindy became the band's secret weapon, handling lead vocals and playing saxophone with a breathy, sultry tone that made the group instantly recognizable in a crowded field of synth-pop and arena rock acts. Marv's songwriting anchored everything, giving the band a polished but emotionally grounded sound.
