Thirsty Thursday here in The Rock Cave as we mark the end of Summer with, of course, The Beach Boys. When were were kids they were "our parents music" which was not really cool but catchy and fun. Early songs were just what they were billed as:teenagers making songs about teeange banter. Throw in some killer harmonies and it worked. Later they would go through all kinds of issues and then so much drama for decades to come. It was with their 11th album, Pet Sounds that they would change the course of Psychedelic and progessive Rock forever. While it was mostly a solo affair, the layers and intricacies of Jazz, Folk, Experimental and The Wall of sound-type effects were a force to be reckoned with. Many of my favorite songs come from this album and tend to be their slower songs. "In My Room" 'Surfer Girl" "Wouldn't It Be Nice" "Caroline, No" "God Only Knows" and "Sloop John B" show that this band was more than just goofing off teeagers. Revisit them today.
