Guitar legend Jeff beck passed away at age 78 yesterday. It was Jimmy Page who was a session muscian (and soon to tease a Zep album) who recommended Beck to The Yardbirds to replace Eric Clapton. in 1965. His short 20 months with them was notable for 1 album and a lot of attention. The Jeff Beck Group circa 1967 sported Rod Stewart on vocals and The Stones Ronnie Wood on Bass would go through many lineup changes over their tenure. He was considered on of the Top 5 guitarists of all time on many such lists. Known for being a pioneer in the use of feedback and distortion, he pretty much recorded or played with everyone. A multi-grammy winner, hes legacy will live on. Check out todays SOTD from when I first heard him, The Pump from Risky Business.
