About

Out of Sydney, Australia in 1977, INXS built one of rock's most irresistible catalogs by blending post-punk energy with funk grooves, R&B swagger, and danceable new wave hooks. The Farriss brothers — Tim, Andrew, and Jon — provided the musical backbone, but it was frontman Michael Hutchence who became the band's magnetic center, delivering vocals and stage presence that genuinely rivaled the biggest rock icons of his era. Guitarist Tim and keyboardist Andrew crafted a sound that was simultaneously radio-friendly and genuinely cool, a balance most bands never pull off.

Their commercial peak hit hard with Kick in 1987, a stone-cold classic that produced four Top 10 U.S. singles including Need You Tonight and Devil Inside. But albums like The Swing and Listen Like Thieves showed the band's range well before mainstream America caught on. INXS weren't just chart chasers — they were a tight, road-hardened live act that earned their reputation the honest way.

Hutchence's tragic death in 1997 effectively ended the band's golden chapter, and his loss still looms large over their legacy. At their best, INXS captured something genuinely electric — a cross-continental sound that didn't belong entirely to any one scene, which is probably why it still holds up.
